“Don Quijote de La Mancha” is one of my favourite fiction characters in literature. His squire Sancho Panza seems to represent the material world while Quixote that of the ideal, both side by side. A tag on this photo tells me it was taken in Palm Springs. Do you have an idea of the why his statue is there? Windmills (the practical) might have defeated the intrepid warrior, but he (the ideal) had not trouble crossing an ocean…
I don’t know why it is there. It sits inside of a small grass courtyard surrounded by shops, galleries and coffee places…yet it has never seemed an odd place for it to me. I’m not sure if it still stands tall, looking over the cafe tables, although next time I’m there I’ll surely check. 🙂
